The biggest challenge I face in journalistic writing is staying objective. In the past I have worked as a researcher, and it is hard for me to shake those tendencies. I find myself trying to find an answer, or prove a point, when I should be just reporting the facts. It's important to be able to report both sides of a story, even if the facts don't fit within what I think the story should be. Academic writing focuses more on a point you are trying to make. You find quotes and information that back up your stance. I find myself leaning toward an academic style of writing, when I should be writing like a journalist.
