Blog #1 Lenora Muhm
The high school that I graduated from barely taught kids how to read, much less the intricacies of grammar. What little I do know, I learned from my mom, who hounded me as a child about me's and I's. Even college writing and literature classes taught me very little. For me, the most difficult thing about grammar is the disconnect between what is technically proper grammar and what is colloquial grammar. It's hard to deviate from what you hear everyday. When is the last time you used "whom" in a sentence? With the voice for language reform growing louder, I say that either way, a consensus needs to be reached, and the conventions should be steadfast and emphasized in elementary curriculum.
