Blog #2 Lenora Muhm
It is becoming increasingly difficult to remain "politically correct" when talking about a specific group or race of people. There are lists of words you can use, and words you can't. It's like navigating a minefield. Maybe I'm ignorant, or maybe I'm just sheltered, but many of these words I don't even know what they even mean (Twinkie? Do people actually use that?). But then we have professional sports teams that use the same words (Braves? Red Skins? Is THAT racist?). The underlying idea is to respect each other, and our individual backgrounds. If we respect each other, words will follow suit. Language is, after all, dynamic (remember when gay meant happy?).
